You are not going to find them for free anyplace legal. It would be hard to find them at all. Otherwise, kids would all be downloading the answers to all their tests.

Algebra II: What is the variance? What is the standard deviation?

This item was filled under [ Algebra Textbook ]

Question by Claire: Algebra II: What is the variance? What is the standard deviation?
I am working through my Algebra II textbook to prepare for an examination. I’ve encountered a snag with this problem. Here is the stem-and-leaf plot that goes with these questions.

10 | 0
9 | 2,4,5
8 | 1,2,7,9
7 | 1,1,3
6 | 1,2,8
5 | 1,5

The mean is 77.
The mode is 71.
The median is 77.

What is the variance? What is the standard deviation of these scores?

If anyone can show me how to solve this type of problem and explain how to get the answer, I would appreciate it greatly. Thank you!

Answer by Mirt F
variance = sum of (each value squared) – mean squared
——————————————
(number of values)

standard deviation = square root of variance.

in this situation n would be 16, and sum of n squared would be
100squared + 92squared + 94squared………………….

e.g.
if I had 2 values: 13 and 24

mean = 13+24 / 2 = 18.5
sum of n squared = 13^2 + 24^2 = 745

var = 745 / 2 – 18.5^2

var = 30.25

standard dev = root 30.25

Electrostatics in Physics, help :D?

Question by ^‿^: Electrostatics in Physics, help :D ?
1)The difference of potential between terminals of a battery is 6V. How much work is done when a series of negative charges totaling 0.5 C are moved from one terminal to another?

2) Two parallel metal plates have opposite charges and a difference of potential of 1000V between them. a) How mcuh work in eV (electrovolts) is done in moving an electron from the negatively charged plate to the positively charged plate? b) What is this work in joules?

Please explain. Thanks :)

** I tried reading my physics textbook, and it only gets me more confused. So if you can, please explain each step, if you don’t understand it either, don’t bother asking and
telling me to read the book or whatever, I’d appreciate it.

Energy (U) is in joules.
Charge (Q) is in coulombs.
Potential (V) is energy per charge, so it is Joules/Coulomb = volts. As a formula, U = Q*V.
For problem one, they gave you two numbers. Which? Put them into the formula.

For the second problem, realize that a joule is a LOT of energy for an electron. So instead of multiplying an entire coulomb by a volt to get a joule, you can also multiply just the charge of one electron, 1.6×10^-19 Coulombs, by 1 volt, to get 1.6×10^-19 Joules, a reasonable size of energy for an electron. We give that a name: electron-volt. The name makes sense because we multiplied one electron charge by a volt to get energy. So 1 eV = 1.6×10^-19 Joules, and energy can be measured in eV, which is often easier to do.

In general, the more attention you pay to the units, the easier it will be to follow science. Good luck!

Question by UQuestion… – LifeAnswers: How Should I Handle This?
In the last three days one of the answers I have supplied to Yahoo Answers questioners in the Business & Finance Personal Finance section has been twice reported (same answer to multiple questioners) to Yahoo Answers as being an inappropriate answer in violation of Yahoo Answers Community Guidelines.

And, both times the Yahoo Answers team gave a thumbs up to the answer. How can I avoid this answer being reported yet again as inappropriate.

Below is the question and the determination given by Yahoo Answers:

Hi UQuestion… – LifeAnswers,

Thank you for taking the time to submit an appeal. Upon review, we found the following answer was not in violation of the Answers Community Guidelines:

All the best to you.”

Take your links and put them in the “Source(s)” section of your answer. Many of my canned answers got reported until I moved my links to the Source(s) section. Having links in the main section of your answer makes you look like a spambot. The spam filters at Yahoo answers may be automatically reporting you.

The link is to a canned answer I had, that kept getting reported, until I moved the links to the “Source(s)” section.
